Hollon has recently announced a new UL rated 1 hour fireproof home safe, the Hollon HS-510E. The safe features an electronic keypad locking mechanism that can be programmed to accept access codes from 3-8 digits. The keypad can accept 1 master user code and 1 user code. It is powered by 4-AA batteries. Other features include a removable shelf, 1 anchor bolt hole drilled into the bottom of the safe, and 2 active locking bolts on the opening side with 2 fixed locking bolts on the hinge side. The safe comes complete with mounting hardware. The HS-510E also features seamless construction which eliminates the weak welded seams associated with safes that use seams.
The safe uses true composite construction — there’s a solid steel inner layer, a solid steel outer layer, and a layer of concrete-like fireproofing material sandwiched in between. This helps the safe to achieve the tough UL 1 hour fireproof rating, which is a stricter standard than other ratings often used by manufacturers. The UL 1 hour fireproof test subjects the safe to an 1850 degree F fire for a period of 1 hour. During this time, the temperature inside the safe must remain below 350 degrees F. This is a low enough temperature to ensure that your papers and other small valuables will remain intact in the event of a fire. By way of comparison, the average wooden house fire is only 950 degrees F. The HS-510E measures 19″ x 13-1/2″ x 15-3/4″ on the outside, 14″ x 8-1/2″ x 11-4/5″ on the inside, and weighs 121 pounds. It has a capacity of 0.83 cubic feet. Overall, the HS-510E is an excellent 1 hour fireproof home safe available at a very reasonable cost.
